It's pretty hard to imagine a world without Bart Simpson. Or Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie for that matter.

And The Simpsons will reach an impressive milestone this Sunday -- 500 episodes. I repeat, 500 episodes!

That's something to get excited about. The show airs Sunday at 7 p.m on Fox -- so set your DVRs, even if you no longer visit Springfield regularly.

I'm old enough to remember when the show was merely an animated skit on one of the Fox network's funniest shows, The Tracey Ullman Show. It may not be remembered for its outrageous skits, but it will forever be known as the show that gave birth to The Simpsons.

According to USA Today, only two other prime time scrpited shows have reached the 500 mark: Gunsmoke, with 635 episodes, and Lassie with 588.

Since I'm waxing poetic about the peachy-yellow cartoon heroes, I'll share my favorite Simpsons memory.

Back in 2007 before The Simpsons Movie was released, the clever marketers decided to turn various 7 Eleven stores into replicas of the best animated convenience store ever -- the Kwik-E-Mart.

We happened to be traveling through Dallas that summer, and my husband realized we'd be staying near one of the few locations in our region.

So we stopped by, and it was the coolest experience. The signage was spot on, the store clerks were dressed like Apu, and the goodies included Krusty O's cereal, Buzz cola and the ultimate Homer Simpson treat -- the neon pink doughnut.

It was unreal. We bought some of the novelty items, and kept them for a while. I think the Buzz cola leaked all over the closet I had stored it in.

D'oh!

What's your favorite Simpsons episode?
