Since Rick Kamp informed me Tuesday morning that he has closed Rick's Cafe American at Ranch Acres Shopping Center -- possibly temporarily, possibly forever -- I've had 24 hours to think about the things I will miss most about that 14-year-old restaurant.

10. Music nights with Mark Bruner and Susan Herndon

9. Razor Clam Boston schrod

8. Broiled spinach mozzarella salad

7. Rotisserie split of duckling

6. Popovers

5. Toasted goat cheese dumplings

4. Razor Clam chowder

3. Witt pan fry steak

2. Creme brulee

1. Rick himself. Not everyone knows Rick played a little pro baseball. If you want to talk baseball and food -- and what good American wouldn't -- the conversation at Rick's was, in old-school vernacular, the aces.
