Even amateur bakers get in on the act in December.

Watch "It's a Wonderful Life."

Buy something you might never make at home, like Christmas tree cinnamon rolls from Merritt's Bakery.
With 12 days until Christmas, it's time to step it in gear. Many of us still have plenty of shopping, partying and general holidaying to do before next weekend.
Here are 12 things to do in these days leading up to Christmas. It would be fun to make it to all 12, but more importantly, carve out a little peace in these hectic days.
1. Pick up an angel from the Salvation Army Angel Tree.
2. Drive through one of the big Christmas lights displays, like Rhema in Broken Arrow, Chandler Park or Honor Heights in Muskogee.
3. Bake cookies. Even amateur bakers find themselves covered in flour and frosting this time of year.
4. Go window shopping. Spend a late afternoon browsing the windows at Utica Square where the windows are decked out for Christmas. Don't miss the windows at Miss Jackson's.
5. Buy something you would never make yourself, like fruitcake or a cinnamon roll tree from Merritt's Bakery.
6. Find a new Christmas song to add to your playlist. I'm loving "Winter Snow" by Audrey Assad.
7. Make a gift. Give a homemade cocoa mix or handmade scarf to a friend.
8. Go ice skating at Winterfest downtown. Ice skating in Tulsa is rare, so take advantage outside the BOK Center.
9. See a Christmas show. Tulsa Ballet's "The Nutcracker" and American Theatre Company's "A Christmas Carol" are two of the best. Both are at the PAC.
10. Check out the candy display at the Sweet Tooth at 37th Street and Harvard Avenue. Old-fashioned glass jars filled with peppermints, taffy, chocolates and other seasonal candies will make you feel like a kid again.
11. Pick out a new ornament for your tree. Find one that represents 2011 for you or your family.
12. Watch a classic Christmas move, whether it be "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Elf."
