5:25 every morning

A nice Tulsa World reader named Alice just wrote to say she loves it when her paper is dropped off at 5:25 every morning because she never knows what she's going to find.

The surprise last week was a recipe for a spicy sausage pasta that she made for friends. Her dinner party was a hit, she said, because of that recipe.

In case you missed it, here it is. Alice suggests adding red pepper flakes.

CREAMY, SPICY SAUSAGE PASTA

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound (about 4 sausages) hot or sweet Italian sausages, casings removed
3/4 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup prepared tomato sauce
1 1/2 cups frozen peas, thawed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 pound rigatoni pasta
Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish

1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Crumble the sausages into the pan, and cook until browned, 3 to 5 minutes.

2. Stir in the cream and tomato sauce, and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Add the peas, and cook for 2 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper.

3. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the rigatoni according to the package directions. Drain well. Add the rigatoni to the sauce in the skillet, and stir to combine. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.
