Laugh and play at the Captain Underpants Fling from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Check out the trains at the Sapulpa Museum.

Last week I heard from a Tulsa World reader and grandmother to five who was looking for free things to do with her family.

Cheap, she said, wasn't good enough. With five grandkids and a tight budget, she needed some ideas for fun and free things to do.

So, here are five for this weekend.

1. Enjoy the weather with a nature walk on the grounds of Gilcrease Museum. In the fall and spring, formal tours are given of the gardens in the 23 developed acres of the museum's 460 acres. In the winter, you can be your own guide, exploring the rocks, winter foliage and native plants spread among sculptures and rock pathways.
The gardens are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

2. OK, this one isn't free, but it's so close to free, it had to be included. On Sundays, kids' meals are $1.50 with the purchase of an adult meal. Choose from macaroni and cheese, tacos, chili, chicken fingers and several other options.

3. It's going to be a party at Martin Regional Library Saturday for the Captain Underpants Fling. It takes place from 2 to 3 p.m. Kids ages 5 to 10 can make crafts and play games, all in the theme of the popular book series. Costumes are encouraged.

4. Do you have kids who love trains? Let them see the real deal in Sapulpa. First, go to the Sapulpa Historical Society to learn about the impact of the railway system on Oklahoma, then check out a model train set. Next, head a few miles down to the Sapulpa Trolley and Rail Museum to a restore safety car from the Sapulpa trolley system. This car, the Maggie M., was built in 1919, and has been restored by volunteers. You can find it at 701 E. Dewey St. in Sapulpa.

5. Even in the dead of winter, you'll find fun at the Ray Harral Nature Park in Broken Arrow. The highlight of the park is the suspension walk bridge. You'll also find walking trains, nature areas and picnic shelters. Bring a picnic lunch for a fun afternoon outing.
