A bit of Tulsa Ballet back in NYC

Tulsa Ballet principal dancers Ma Cong and Wang Yi will be taking part this Fridday in the 10th annual Youth America Grand Prix Gala -- part of the week-long Youth America Grand Prix, a international competition for dancers ages 9 to 19.

The performance, which will feature dancers from such companies as the Paris Opera Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, New York City Ballet, Christopher Wheeldon's Morphoses and England's Royal Ballet, will take place at the New York City Center.

Wang will perform a new piece choreographed by Cong titled "In the Moment," set to music that will be performed live by Aurora Barnes. Wang will part Michele Wiles, principal dancer from American Ballet Theatre.

Wang and Wiles have worked together in the past; when Tulsa Ballet dancer Soo Youn Cho was injured during rehearsals for last season's "Don Quixote," Wiles was brought in to dance the role of Kitri to Wang's Basilio.

Wiles described Wang as "really a beautiful dancer, and very accommodating as a partner."
