A few more voices from the New York critics on Tulsa Ballet

Once you get past the daily papers and their very, very personal, very VERY well-ground axes, the impression you get is that Tulsa Ballet made quite a hit with people.

That is the impression we came away with through casual conversations with people who attended the Monday and Tuesday night performances of Tulsa Ballet's triple bill at the Joyce Theater.

That is the impression we get from the fact that most of Tulsa Ballet's subsequent performances have sold out.

I want to back up your impression of the New York audience's reaction to the Tulsa Ballet. I'm a former Oklahoman who attended the Thursday night performance. The Joyce Theater was full, and the audience clearly had a better time there than the critics of the NY Times and the Post, and they didn't hesitate to express their appreciation. The dancers performed beautifully; it was the two offending critics who behaved tackily. Many thanks for giving the links to the positive reviews.
There are some reviews I've come across online -- mostly from dance bloggers -- that weren't as enthusiastic about the program, but at least they presented valid, cogent reasons for their dissatisfaction, rather than indulging in snide putdowns and airy dismissals.

In any case, it would seem that this little controversy over Tulsa Ballet is generating a bit more interest in the company among New York dance fans, which is all to the good. As one showman said in days past, "Say something good, say something bad, but for heaven's sake say SOMETHING."
