Wild Fork patio
We were at Wild Fork in Utica Square this morning where I was developing an upcoming feature on beignets.
In addition to beignets, we ordered a wonderful veggie omelet. The omelet came with a choice of sides, and sliced tomatoes seemed to be the lightest option, given that we were dining on the patio in late morning. It still was pleasant but was beginnning to warm up a bit.
What a fabulous choice that was! This was the first tomato I've had that had any flavor since I don't know when. It was fully ripe and full of meat -- no gaping holes or white parts inside -- and had a deep, rich red color. And the flavor was almost explosive, it was so intense.
I would have paid a pretty penny just for the tomato.
It turned out the tomato didn't exactly come from heaven, but it did come from a heavenly garden. We were told it came from the garden of the parents of Wild Fork chef and co-owner Kim Michie. The way tomato gardens have gone this summer, her parents must have a golden touch.
