Actor Ryan Gosling has been a hit on screen and with fans since his "The Notebook" days but it's looking like he preparing a backup profession just in case.

The "Gangster Squad" star and "Anchorman" star Will Ferrell showed up as the "Knife Guys" last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Ferrell interrupted Kimmel's sketch of guessing tourists' New Year's resolutions for his own QVC infomercial.

"We sell knives at 11:30. Everybody knows that," Gosling told Kimmel,

"It doesn't matter, Ryan," said Ferrell. "Let's get to chopping."

"You need to check the sign-up sheet,” said Ferrell, who insisted the studio was his at 11:35 (EDT) rather than being reserved for "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in its new national time slot.

In Tulsa, the latenight talk show airs at 11:35 p.m., moved up from 12:05 a.m. starting this week, on KTUL, channel 8.

He then introduces straight-man Gosling as "someone who has more stuff to slice" – cookie dough, chocolate milk, potato chips, cottage cheese, applesauce, chocolate pudding.

When Ferrell cuts his finger during his demonstration, he insists "it's a much cleaner slice than you would get from any other knife."

Here's the "Knife Guys" sketch followed by Gosling's interview on the show.

It's official. 2013 and Will Ferrell still isn't funny.

Rita Sherrow grew up with TV. Yes, it was the ever-present “sister” from another techno mother. At first look, it was instant "Like." From then on, the TV had to be on in every room while she studied, elementary school through college. An Air Force brat, she attended school in three states (Oklahoma, Montana and Georgia) and two foreign countries (Germany and Bermuda) and graduated from Broken Arrow High School and the University of Tulsa with a degree in journalism/advertising. She first interned in the advertising world but, when a J-School professor (who also covered politics for the Tulsa World) offered her an internship at the newspaper, she took him up on it. The rest is history. She has served as bridal editor, senior features writer for the women’s section, food editor and is television editor of the Tulsa World. In addition to writing about TV shows and interviewing the stars for “Scene” stories, she also writes a TV column for Weekend and produces the Sunday TV World listings magazine.
