After Newtown massacre, call out the National Guard?

U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, a Democrat from California, introduced a bill this week to let the National Guard provide security at schools.

The Save Our Schools Act would offer federal funding to deploy the Guard, but leave it to individual governors to decide whether to use the troops.

Nearly 600 children a year are murdered in the United States before they're old enough to leave kindergarten, with more than 200 killed before their first birthdays, according to the Census.

Sadly, most of them die in their own homes.

Are we going to post the National Guard next to every crib?

That creates an awfully slippery slope when we start having the National Guard acting as Police guards in the schools, for an extended period of time.

That is not the function of the National Guard, and shouldn't become their mission for the future.

I preferred them on the border between Oklahoma and Texas, but this makes just about as much sense.
