Antoinette Baking Co. to open a new Brookside bakery

Antoinette Baking Co. will open a Brookside bakery in early September to sell cakes, pies and popular French macaron cookies.
Initially, the owners Molly Martin and Andrea Mohn considered opening their bakery downtown, but they found a location at 3305 S. Peoria Ave. that was perfect for their needs, Martin said. The shop formerly housed Sweeties restaurant and cafe.
“We have been just selling to family and friends and catering for about four years off and on,” Martin said. “But we have just become too popular, so we decided to take it to the next level.”
One of the specialties of Antoinette Baking Co. is macarons. Macarons — not to be confused with the coconut cookie macaroon — are dainty French cookies, often made in colorful shades and sandwiched together with fruit or chocolate filling.
Antoinette Baking has sold its macarons and other baked goods at pop-up shops and other events.
Now that the bakery has a storefront, the plan is to serve macarons, cakes and pies Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings for dessert.
Eventually, the owners plan to obtain a liquor license so people can enjoy wine with their desserts, Martin said.
Antoinette Baking also plans to offer a Saturday breakfast with specialties such as blue corn and lavender pancakes, French toast in assorted flavors, and waffles.
“The dine-in section will be small, probably not more than 12 tables,” Martin said.
The staff will continue doing special orders and catering as they work to get the shop ready, she said.
“It is pretty close. We are doing some painting and switching up with some different flooring,” Martin said.
And Martin and Mohn and looking forward to being open in time for the busy holiday season.
