Do-Goodie Brownies

Pardon my French, but Mondays suck. Today does, anyway -- particularly because I'm back on the healthy-food wagon after more than a month of oinkery. But, Lawsy, did I have some fun!

One of the highlights of my most recent piggish period came in the mail: Do-Goodie Brownies, which were so fabulously good, I didn't even share with my co-workers. Yeah, I'm an evil ho(g).

Anyway, here's the scoop ("of ice cream" implied):

I've been salivating to spill the cocoa beans on this, as I received a press kit about the brownies a few weeks ago. Finally, they've arrived at Akin's, and they'll be on the shelves Tuesday.

Seriously, y'all, these are some of the best dang brownies I’ve ever had in my highly caloric life. They're made with rich Belgian chocolate and all-natural ingredients. A variety of flavors are offered: Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Walnut Fudge Brownie (had it, loved it), Espresso Bean Brownie and Brown Sugar Blondie (perhaps my fave).

The really cool thing about Do-Goodie is that 100 percent of profits support the Greyston Foundation, a $13 million integrated network of for-profit and not-for-profit entities, a few of which include providing jobs, childcare, healthcare services, comprehensive HIV health care and community gardens. Pretty groovy, huh? Wait ‘til you taste one ($2.49) – have another for me, while you're at it.

P.S.: Greyston Bakery, which makes Do-Goodies, are the guys who provide the delicious mix-ins for my favorite ice cream company, Ben & Jerry’s. That might help explain my acute adoration.

Peace, love and brownies ... xoxo

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
