Are you going to read J.K. Rowling's new book, 'The Casual Vacancy'?

J.K. Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy" hits bookstores Thursday.

Shallow though the admission is, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't envious of author J.K. Rowling's massive success.

I am not, however, remotely jealous of her critics.

Despite the world-wide fame -- and hundreds of millions of dollars -- she garnered from the Harry Potter books, Rowling still had her detractors in the form of newspaper and magazine book editors.

Perhaps that's why she admitted nervousness to a Huffington Post reporter who spoke to her about her newest book, "The Casual Vacancy," which debuts this week. It's her first work for adults, and she wondered if people would like it. After all, she has left Hogwarts and delved into topics such as teen sex and drugs, according to some online reviews.

I haven't read any of the Potter books. For whatever reason, though, I'm very curious about "The Casual Vacancy."

Are you going to read it? Think it'll be any good?

Peace, love and post-Potter fiction ... XOXO

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
