Asian deli is small but covers a lot of ground

I was visiting some Asian food markets yesterday to research information for a spread the Scene staff is putting together on ethnic markets for next week's Weekend section.

At Asian Mart, 12919 E. 31st St., one of the newest and largest markets in town, I ran across a small, intriguing deli section with a few tables for dine-in customers.

The entrees included familiar items, such as chicken and vegetable stir-fry, fried tilapia and pork kabobs, and less common fare such as pork uteri (stomach) and sesame balls, at bargain prices. A whole (head and all) red snapper, for instance, was $5.75.

I didn't have time to fully sample the food -- although my guide, Sarah Chang, insisted I taste a couple of items -- but I plan to slip back in a few weeks to give the deli a full review.

If you have an interest in authentic Asian dishes and grocery items, Asian Mart is a good place to visit.
