Audience reaction

What's your reaction? What do you think? Thumbs up, or thumbs down on that decision, this rumor, that casting choice?
This blog should be a marketplace of ideas on movies, because anyone who reads about movies in the Tulsa World already hears my voice often enough.
So `What do you think?' is a game we can play on any number of subjects each week. Tell your friends to join you.
For example, what do you think about...
James McAvoy ("Wanted") playing a young Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart played him older) in "X-Men: First Class"...
Jamie Bell ("Billy Elliott") and Josh Hutcherson ("Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D") being rumored among those on the short list to play Peter Parker in a new "Spider-Man" series of films. Who might be better?...
We already know that Chris Evans (Human Torch from the "Fantastic Four" films) will play "Captain America" in Marvel's new film. But what about Tommy Lee Jones to possibly play Gen. Chester Phillips, or Jeremy Renner (Oscar nominee for "The Hurt Locker") to portray Hawkeye in the film?...
Or a TV bonus: "Lost" just ended, and now ABC is exploring reviving another J.J. Abrams series, with the reboot treatment being kicked around for "Alias." Too soon?...

I See Movies for Free
“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in
movie critic Michael Smith’s
brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.

Big winner tonight: producer Harvey Weinstein. "The Artist" wins 5 Oscars, "The Iron Lady" goes 2-for-2, even wins best documentary.
