"August: Osage County" plays Oregon

The Wall Street Journal's theater critic, Terry Teachout, checks out the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's production of Tracy Letts' "August: Osage County," and finds it a winner.

Teachout writes: "In an age of penny-pinching small-scale shows, Mr. Letts's laceratingly black tragicomedy about an Oklahoma family on the verge of disintegration was a spectacular exception to the iron rule of economy, a 3½-hour monster that demanded a giant set and a cast of 13. Yet it flourished on Broadway, running for a year and a half.

"Sometimes a play that makes a strong first impression fails to hold up on repeat acquaintance....I'm happy to report that it looks as good—maybe even better—the second time around."
