It’s not nearly as gross as it sounds.

At the National Barbecue Association conference this year, the award for Best BBQ Tool didn’t go to a fancy grilling gadget.

A simple and inexpensive refrigerator magnet took top honors.

The Meat Temperature Magnet from AmazingRibs.com is a comprehensive guide to meat temperatures. It includes the latest USDA recommendations as well as chef recommendations and color photos of the different stages of doneness for red meats.

It was designed as a quick reference for both indoor and outdoor cooks.

The inventors of the Meat Temperature Magnet created the tool because most cookbooks contain outdated meat temperature info since the USDA has changed its recommendations several times.

And knowing the best cooking temperature is essential to cooking safe food. The Center for Disease Control estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick from foodborne illnesses.

The magnets have apparently sold out on Amazon.com. Anyone interested is encouraged to check back next week.
