Weather is apparently a very key factor in professional fishing. This strikes me as odd, because when I was little, my dad would take us kids fishing whether it was raining or if the pond was iced over (then it was ice fishing, not just fishing).

As Tulsa World Outdoors writer Kelly Bostian explained, "You hear that all the time, 'I found 'em in practice but then we had this high pressure system/big low/front/rain/clouds/wind/etc. come in and the fish moved into a different pattern.'"

The official pracitce runs for the fishers are this weekend, so here is your Grove weather forecast. Since there's no night fishing to my knowledge, these forecasts are for the daylight hours only:

Friday, Feb. 15: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42.

Saturday, Feb. 16: Sunny, with a high near 42.

Sunday, Feb. 17: Sunny, with a high near 56. Breezy.

Says Tulsa National Weather Service meteorologist Karen Hatfield:

"Current model data indicate the potential for a storm system to move through the area Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th, with high pressure in place by Sunday the 17th.

"The two main medium range weather models we use are disagreeing on the strength of the late week system, but both agree on the timing and that high pressure should be here by Sunday."

Because the weather service does not offer forecasts more than a week out, here are some additional resources for those of you looking to the actual tournament, the weekend after next:

  • The Climate Prediction Center's two-week forecast, which indicates warmer and wetter conditions for tournament weekend

  • Climatology information from Pryor, the closest weather service site to Grand Lake, showing historical temperature and precipitation information

  • If you are still reading, but have no idea what the 2013 Bassmaster Classic is, you can find more information via the Tulsa World on our main page here.

In a nutshell, it is the Super Bowl of Bass Fishing!

Staff Writer Althea Peterson started writing for the Tulsa World in March 2007 after previous stops at the Norman Transcript in 2006 and the Oklahoma Gazette in 2005. She followed her older brother from rural Wisconsin (with a public school that never seemed to call snow days) to the University of Oklahoma, but did not follow his pursuit to study meteorology. However, she tries to find as many opportunities to report on the weather as possible.

Staff Writer Jerry Wofford came to the Tulsa World in 2010 from The Manhattan Mercury in Manhattan, Kan. Originally from western Arkansas and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Jerry has lived in Tornado Alley his entire life and is one of those people who goes outside when the sirens go off.
