Beck covers hit INXS album "Kick"

Check out Beck's newest quirky addition to his online "Record Club" feature. He's recruited Tulsa-born Annie Clark and members of St. Vincent, along with Os Mutantes' Dergio Dian and the Liars to record their version of the hit 1987 album by INXS, "Kick."

The musicians spent a day in the studio in Los Angeles to record the project.

Wrote Beck on his official Web site: "The record was chosen by fellow Aussie, Angus from the Liars. It was recorded in a little over 12 hours on March 3rd, 2010. It was an intense, hilarious, daunting and completely fun undertaking. Thanks to everybody for being there and putting so much into it."

One song a week will be posted, in the original album track sequence. First up, "Guns in the Sky."

Other tracks on the album include “New Sensation,” “Devil Inside,” “Need You Tonight” and “Never Tear Us Apart.”

Beck's record club brings musicians together in an informal setting to record an album in one day. Nothing is rehearsed ahead of time. "There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens," writes Beck on his site.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.
