Beer University

I recently attended one of Elliot Nelson's Beer University nights at McNellie's. It was my first, and it featured German beers -- 25 German beers!
My brother participated with me, and my wife tagged along as designated driver, a crucial part of the experience as the pours were generous except for the few beers that were in short supply.
The setting was very informal, and Elliot provided interesting background and information about each brewery and each beer. It was a heck of an entertaining night for $30, though we chose to grab a bite to eat there as well, which kicked up the cost of the evening a tad.
The only thing I think could make these events better would be to split them up into two nights, charge $20 to $25, hold it to about a dozen beers and take a little more time between rounds. After about 12 beers, my tastebuds were fried. And I was getting full.
Elliot said his next Beer University, featuring American microbreweries, probably will be scheduled in September.
P.S. My hat is off to the two gentlemen -- who appeared to be well into their AARP years -- who ordered full beers off the menu about 20 beers into the tasting. Remarkable.
