Thoughts on the
2012 U.S. Olympic team uniforms to debut in London the week after next?
The outfit includes a navy blue blazer, white bottoms…and a beret.
Ralph Lauren designed the Opening and Closing Ceremony Parade Uniform which seems GREAT for a fashion ad, extremely European and reason enough to draw criticism for not being extra American. Agreed.
Especially that beret part. Not on a casual day. I don’t typically see people
casually wearing that around here.
“We’re very excited about the look Ralph Lauren has developed for Team USA to wear at the London 2012 Opening Ceremony and believe it will help set the tone for Team USA at the Games,” United States Olympic Committee Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Baird said in a statement.
"Fox & Friends’" Steve Doocy suggested baseball caps as he thought the berets were too French.
And I think that might be cute. A fitted ball cap with the classic Polo Pony sewn on the back with the blazer and skirt or slacks? But maybe that’s not elegant enough for London. How ‘bout the ball caps with the brass-ish adjustable closure? J. Crew style.
But then, who are we putting on airs for?
And better yet, why is this such a big deal if there was a similar uniform back in ’08, which Lauren also designed.
Well because in ’08, Team USA was wearing white driving hats.
A look back to Beijing
Whatever the case. Controversy continues to stir with news that the uniforms were made in China...Not even going there this morning. Let's keep it light!
