Bill Hader as the Hoff in a "Baywatch" movie?

Bill Hader

David Hasselhoff of "Baywatch"

Tulsa native Bill Hader is known for being the funniest person now on "Saturday Night Live," and for being a go-to co-star in movie comedies.

He is not known for being a tanned sun god who might be the first choice to play the David Hasselhoff role in a "Baywatch" movie.

It was strange to see rumor-based Internet reports that the "Reno 911!" creator making a movie based on the jiggle show about babes, beaches and bronzers was looking to cast Hader as the lead lifeguard.

It was more amusing to then see the rumor go viral, and then hear that it was all false once someone actually bothered to contact a representative for Hader, who shot down the claim.

Nice Internet reporting, people.

Here's to hoping that when Hader finally jumps into the lead role in a movie (a live-action one beyond the animated "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs") that he will choose wisely.

If the choice for his breakthrough were "Baywatch," I'd think he would need to wear a high-rated sunscreen considering all the heat he would get for that choice.

I think Hader would be perfect in a Baywatch movie. He could be all that the Hoff ever wanted to be.

They are really scraping the barrel for new movie ideas if they have to make a Baywatch movie....but a Wendy's burger sounds pretty good.

I See Movies for Free

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in movie critic Michael Smith’s brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.

Big winner tonight: producer Harvey Weinstein. "The Artist" wins 5 Oscars, "The Iron Lady" goes 2-for-2, even wins best documentary.
