Local boy makes good, hits the big time, whatever clichéd expression you can think of, it fits when it comes to Dan Piraro’s glee at game-show fame.

From an e-mail I received last week from the Booker T. Washington graduate who’s gone on to syndication success with his witty, wily “Bizarro” cartoon, telling those on his mailing list that he can’t contain “how psyched I am.”

“I’ve been getting emails all day telling me that I was a clue on Jeopardy last night! How cool is that?!” wrote the longtime New York-based cartoonist.

He said he heard the category was “cartoons” and the answer supplied to the contestants was something along the line of asking what cartoon by Piraro was used as a replacement for Gary Larson’s “The Far Side” in newspapers.

“And the contestant GOT IT RIGHT!” Piraro continued in the e-mail. “After 23 years of syndicated comics, I've finally hit the big time! Of course, my cartoon started running ten years before The Far Side was retired so it wasn't accurate, but

STILL!”

Congratulations, Dan, at getting that Alex Trebek mention, and I’m one of many who loved your recent Clark Kent cartoon. It just strikes me that all is right with the world when the Bizarro world includes a Superman appearance.

Somewhere, Jerry Seinfeld is smiling.
