Forget the players, Beyonce or the longest national anthem in Super Bowl history, it was the nearly 35-minute blackout topping the most Twitter comments.
At 231,500 tweets per minute, the blackout inspired more one-liners than the 108-yard kickoff return for a Ravens touchdown or the clock expiring at the game's end.
Twitter chatter hit about 24.1 million quips, which spiked during the #SuperBowlBlackOut.
Everyone seemed to have something to say about the darkness.
Actor Neil Patrick Harris posted a photo of him with friends illuminating their faces: "All the lights are out!! It’s pandemonium!! Thank god we have out Beyonce finger lights!"
From the parody Superdome Light Crew : "What people don't talk about is how the lights were on for the entire first half."
In the spirit of the Super Bowl, advertisers jumped on the opportunity.
From Tide laundry detergent: "We can't get your #blackout, but we can get your stains out."
Fans of Downton Abbey got a shoutout from the PBS account: "This might be a good time think about alternative programming. #SuperBowlBlackOut #WeHaveDowntonPBS"
Many noted how the blackout seemed to change the game's momentum.
From DaynaTrisNYC: "How many blackouts does each team get per game? Baltimore better use one soon... ?#superbowl47"
My favorite:
"Whatever. Who hasn't blacked out in New Orleans," one person said.
