Blake Shelton charted his sixth consecutive No. 1 single this week with "
Drink On It," from his album "
Red River Blue."
This makes his 11th No. 1 single since the Ada native launched his career in 2001. He is also the reigning title holder for both the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association male vocalist of the year.
Shelton also recently wrapped a sold-out headlining arena tour.
He can be seen weekly as a coach on NBC’s hit singing competition "The Voice," alongside fellow superstars
Adam Levine,
Christina Aguilera and
CeeLo Green.
"I really couldn't be happier about this one y'all," said Shelton in a press statement. "Bob Reeves and the WMN (Warner Music Nashville) team, you beat the odds and won the game, and country radio, you are my brothers and sisters...I love you. Thanks so much for always supporting my country a*s. Now, let's drink on it," the notorious partier said.
Twitter also lit up at the news. Fellow country music star
Martina McBride told him, "Hey! Congrats on your No. 1! So happy for you!!"
Said country badboy
Merle Haggard: "Blake congratulations on your number one!!!”
A stunned Shelton wasn't beyond being a little starstruck, as he responded, " Everybody stop!! Hats off. Moment of silence. Merle Haggard just tweeted me!!"
“Drink On It” is the follow-up from his three-week No. 1 single, “
God Gave Me You." "Red River Blue" debuted at No. 1 on the Soundscan Top Current Albums chart and Soundscan Top Country Albums chart when it was released last July.
Another single from the album, “
Honey Bee," became his first digital Platinum single and earned him the record for the fastest-selling digital Platinum single for a male country solo artist.
