Team Blake went down-home country last night with singers Liz Davis and Nicole Johnson taking on Miranda Lambert's "Baggage Claim" and each other in a battle round of NBC's "The Voice."
Not only are both singers extremely talented but the song they were singing was a big hit for Oklahoman Blake Shelton's wife Lambert. That made it a tough call for Shelton, who shares a ranch with Lambert near Tishomingo.
"It's a testament to you guys because at some point I am going to have to sit at my house and watch this episode and she going to be like 'You gave them my song?' And when she hears ya'll sing and I know she's going to be "Oh my God, that's awesome' and she will be so proud….
In his critique, Shelton said Davis was more laid back than he expected and he heard Johnson lose her breath for the first time but both were “great singers.”
In the end, he chose Davis to move on in the reality TV competition.
"Liz never really lost her breath so I'm going to go with Liz,” he said and then hugged Davis as she left the stage.
"Based on personal experience, Liz is just a very strong performer and it's clear that she's had a lot of experience and that was the deciding factor," said the country music star, who still has 10 singers on his team.
Adam Levine's 17-year-old Team Adam members Alessandra Guercio and Kayla Nevarez tackled Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" and Levine of Maroon 5 chose Nevarez for her "overall aggressiveness and willingness to take a risk." Then coach Christina Aguilera exercised a "steal" and saved Guercio, keeping her in the competition, according to nbc.com.
Coach CeeLo Green paired pop singer Ben Taub and soul singer Mycle Wastman on Alex Clare's "Too Close" with Wastman getting the final nod. And Team Christina teamed up the duo Beat Frequency and Latin pop singer Laura Vivas on Lady Gaga's "Poker Face." In the end, Aguilera chose Vivas to continue.
The grand prize winner will receive a recording contract.
"The Voice" airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC, channel 2, cable 9. For more on the show, go online to
