Bob Seger fans, well, are a breed all their own

MICHAEL WYKE/Tulsa World

Last night's Bob Seger audience was easily one of the most unruly groups of fans I've ever experienced.

I'm no spring cluck myself, but experiencing herds of baby boomers spilling beer down the front of my shirt, onto my pants, smoking in a non-smoking venue, pushing and shoving, hurling insults, getting falling-down-the-stairs drunk, fielding feedbag-size-purses-to-the-face and hineys-to-the-chin ... The inebriated fans really just shocked me.

Last night was a comedy of really, really bad middle-age stereotypes.

People. Get out more. Drink less. Don't kill me on your drive home. Or someone else's kids. Or yourselves.

How the roles have reversed, yes? I'm asking people my parents' age to be more responsible.

Seriously. The arse-end to the face was really too much. And there were more bathroom breaks than beers served, I'm afraid. I saw some people go as many as six times during the 2-plus hour set.

Awk-ward.

I really do hope this is Seger's last tour. It's not his fault, but I won't be seeing him again.

Kinda sounds like you had your mind made up before you went. How rude!

Sounds like the usual event of a rude Tulsa crowd making a unpleasurable night out of something supposed to be fun... happens alot around here.

I think you are spot on about how folks need to conduct themselves. Please write another article and let us know how Bob sounded and the concert went on stage. Thanks.

Thought about going but glad I didn't. Don't care for those type of Night Moves.

I had an absolute ball! I don't drink...didn't go to the bathroom once...enjoyed watching all these people having fun! Maybe Jennifer should get out more.
TN, there's a concert review, you can find it by searching 'Bob Seger' from our home page. Thanks!

I was also a little annoyed at the people going past but the concert itself was great. Does anyone know why he didn,t sing "Like a Rock".

Have to disagree with Jennifer. I was there and had a absolutely great time and didn't see any issues with the crowd. It was great to hear Bob Seger sing all the songs I've loved and grew up with. Back in the day, I didn't have the the money to go see concerts, but now that I'm older, I do. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see him perform.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
