For the first time, my home will be host to a sleepover of five boys.
Growing up in a house of girls, this will be an adventure and force me to face my fear of a gaggle of boys tearing my walls down.
My son turned 9 the day after New Year’s Day.
His buddies are bored with the winter break and are ready for some good, quality, rough-and-tumble time.
This is the root of my fear.
My mother was queen of throwing slumber parties.
We were armed with snacks, makeup and manicure sessions, dance music, games, dress up and our new VCR machine had plenty of rentals ready.
I wish I were that organized.
Also, I don’t think boys would much appreciate a manicure or Katy Perry sing-a-longs.
My husband is with me on this as I go in blind.
I truly have no idea how to entertain boys.
Snacks are ready, sodas are chilling and Legos are on standby.
There is always the basketball hoop, pitch-back baseball net and several Star Wars light sabers to keep the entertainment going.
We’ll build a fort in the front room for sleeping and have a couple of action movie rentals ready.
But, still there is that fear of boredom leading to destruction.
This is where words of wisdom are welcomed from parents who have been here before.
Also, being on this side of the sleepover fence has brought an even further appreciation for what my parents went through for birthdays.
