Two visual arts venues have special events this evening (Thursday, 19 January), when the snow should have ceased and the crazy drivers are safely in the ditches and medians so the sensible people can navigate our city streets in relative safety.

The Alexandre Hogue Gallery at the University of Tulsa opens "The Power of Typography," a collection of 74 typographical pieces lassembled by noted designer Felix Beltran and part of the permanent collection of the Guttenberg Museum. It features works by such well-known artists as: Theo Van Doesburg, El Lissitzky, Jan Tschichold, Gerhad Marcks, Kurt Schwitters and Hermann Zapf, among others.

Maggy Cuesta, Dean of Visual Arts at the New World School of the Arts, will lecture on the collection at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Jerri Jones Lecture Room in Phillips Hall, Fifth Street and College Avenue on the TU campus. 211. A reception will follow in the Hogue Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. and the exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 24.

At Living Arts, 307 E. Brady St., artist Cathy Deuschle will guide viewers through her exhibit "Aggregate," beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday. Also on display are George Lorio's "Border Images" and "The Illusions of Nature & Space" by Geoffrey Smith.
