The hypocrisy just keeps getting thicker in the health care debate.

Of the many signs being carried around by anti-reform groups, a couple have caught my attention lately. I'm putting aside the mean-spirited ones that incite violence against President Obama and concentrating on the ones that demand that government stay out of our lives.

Most of the same people wanting government to butt out of the health care business (except for Medicare, they like that) also don't want government in the schools.

I suspect, however, that these very same people are all for the government making the decision for a woman when it comes to her own body. If she tries to abort an unwanted pregnancy due to rape, health, her age or any number of other reasons, including not wanting a baby at that time of her life, then these people are all for the government stepping in and taking charge of her personal and spiritual life.

Or, if the government would pass a law forcing children and teachers in schools to say a prayer, they would be all for that – as long as it was their kind of prayer. Or if the government would mandate that all schools teach creationism as science, they would be perfectly happy.

But when it comes to the government trying to help about 40 million people get health care and bringing under control the growing costs of health insurance for almost all Americans, then it should be hands off.

The hypocrisy continues.
