The Mexican novelist and diplomat Carlos Fuentes, who was scheduled to speak Nov. 3 at the University of Tulsa as part of the school's presidential lecture series, has cancelled his Tulsa appearance.
David Hamby, director of University Relations at TU, said that unexpected family issues will prevent Fuentes from coming to Tulsa.
Fuentes has written such novels as "The Old Gringo," "Terra Nova," "The Death of Artemio Cruz," and "Aura," and one of the principal figures in the explosion in popularity of Latin American fiction. In addition to his career as a writer, Fuentes has served as an ambassador for Mexico to England, France and other countries.
