Carrie Underwood's latest tour reaches 1 million fans

Country music darling and Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood wrapped her 2010 headline “Play On Tour” last week in Connecticut after performing 108 shows across the U.S. and Canada.

Nearly 1 million fans attended since its launch last March, her publicist confirmed. Underwood was the top-ranked female country touring artist of 2010 by Pollstar Pro, as she was in 2008.

The tour was under the direction of Raj Kapoor, who brought in renowned set designer Michael Cotten, best known as Michael Jackson’s production designer for “This Is It.”

The tour carried 80 personnel on the road, traveling over 35,000 miles in 13 trucks and 8 buses.

The tour also is nominated for a Pollstar Concert Industry Award (Feb. 5) for “Most Creative Stage Production.”

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.
