Consignment sales coming up, prep early if you want to sell

Shoppers look for bargain buys at a Just Between Friends sale at Expo Square.

Two Tulsa consignment sale events are coming up next month, and a third is set for early September.

Just Between Friends will be at Expo Square Aug. 19-25. Rhea Lana's will be at The Shoppes at Regal Plaza, 106th and Memorial, Aug. 14-18th. ReStyled Threads, a new Tulsa-based consignment event, will be at the Tulsa Southern Hills Marriott, 1902 E. 71st St., Sept. 6-9. All are currently taking consignors.

So if you want to sell some of those clothes that your kids have outgrown, or the toys they no longer play with, or even books they've lost interest in, start preparing now.

ReStyled Threads accepts a full range of men's and women's designer clothing, as long as the pieces are not more than 5 years old. They also accept shoes, belts, ties, hats, and bags.

While working on a story about consignment sales in the spring, I spent some time with a couple of women who were preparing for the sale. It is a lot of work, especially if it's your first time.

Consignors enter all their items into a database, assign them prices, print price tags, and hang and tag all items. Clothing items have to be securely fastened to hangers with safety pins, which are also used to pin the tags to the clothes.

But you'll get 65-80 percent of the money from your sales.

FYI (7 months ago)
I used to love to go to these sales. But now I'm concerned, with the uptick in meth being produced in people's houses everywhere, and how toxic they say the fumes are. The fumes are supposed to burrow into everything (especially soft goods) and I just don't want to take any chances with secondhand goods any longer.
