Dance the weekend away.

Exchange 2011 Dance Choreography Festival will be held Friday through Sunday in the Walter Arts Center of Holland Hall School, 5666 E. 81st St.

Sponsored by the Bell House, the festival offers classes, workshops and performances that explore new ideas in movement, ranging from applying ballet techniques to contemporary dance to the athletic, contortionist-like partnering of groups such as Pilobolous, from crafting a performance for the stage, to how best to capture dance on camera.

The workshops will take place throughout the day and afternoon hours. Three performances, that will be open to the public, will also be offered.

Tickets to the two Adjudicated Concerts, 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday, are $5; tickets are $15 for the Gala performance, 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Faculty for this year's festival includes two Tulsa artists -- Amy Roark-McIntosh and Jessica Vokoun -- along with Bill Wade Jr., Sarah Newton, Amy K. Querin, L. Brooke Schlecte and Melody Ruffin-Ward.

James D. Watts Jr. has lived in Oklahoma for most his life, even though he still has people saying to him, "Don't sound like you're from around these parts." A University of Oklahoma Phi Beta Kappa graduate, Watts has received the Governor Arts Award, Harwelden Award and the National Conference of Christians and Jews Beth Macklin Award for his writing. Before coming to the Tulsa World, Watts worked for the Tulsa Tribune.
