Darth Vader gets rained on (and so does Tulsa)

Yes, I was just waiting for the perfect moment to share that image. I will be back on Friday to deliver more rain photos from around the world, perhaps in hopes that the Tulsa area receives even more rain than it received last night.

Speaking of, how much did Tulsa receive last night? You can check preliminary monthly climate data from the National Weather Service here, or I can spoil the surprise:

0.61 of an inch.

Yes, this is at the Tulsa International Airport, which you can once again read about here. So perhaps you live closer to one of the suburbs or a different area?

For that, let's turn to the Oklahoma Mesonet. Our 24-hour rainfall totals, from 4 p.m. today back till 4 p.m. yesterday are here:

Here are some of the specific locations featured (in inches):
Bixby: 0.62
Claremore: 1.12
Copan: 0.7
Inola: 0.03
Miami: 0.33
Nowata: 0.58
Okmulgee: 0.01
Pawnee: 0.21
Porter: 0.01
Pryor: 0.21
Skiatook: 0.21
Vinita: 0.71
Wynona: 0.35

If you weren't among the high rainfall areas, here's a map to make you feel better:

Yes, it looks like Tulsa will finally have a daily high temperature that isn't in the 90s, which as this page from the National Weather Service shows, is about as rare as a significant rainfall day in June.

-- Althea Peterson

PS: I spoke too soon. The National Weather Service announced within the last hour that Tulsa reached... 90 degrees. This means that 20 of the first 21 days of June have had daily highs in the 90s. June 16 was the only day that didn't reach that mark, with a high of 87.

Staff Writer Althea Peterson started writing for the Tulsa World in March 2007 after previous stops at the Norman Transcript in 2006 and the Oklahoma Gazette in 2005. She followed her older brother from rural Wisconsin (with a public school that never seemed to call snow days) to the University of Oklahoma, but did not follow his pursuit to study meteorology. However, she tries to find as many opportunities to report on the weather as possible.
