Dixie Cream, Ryan's Steak House close

A couple of closings have come to my attention recently.
Closed are Dixie Cream Donut Co. at 807 E. A St., Jenks, and Ryan's Family Steak House, 10934 E. 21st St.
The closing of Ryan's leaves the Tulsa area with few choices for an American buffet -- the mega buffets at the Golden Corral restaurants and a smaller one at Golden Saddle. If I am forgetting any, let me know.

The last few times we went to eat at Ryans there was one whole side completely empty. Only enough people to fill one side. That should have been their busiest time of the evening. The grand kids always like to eat there.

The Ryan's closing has to be poor management. We went for a birthday party on a Saturday night and they were packed and ran out of food. I talked to the manager, a goody dude, and he said he was short on cooks in the kitchen. Well, he should have been back there. BY the time we were leaving around 9:00AM the food was piled up on all buffet stations and the restaurant was empty. He didn't really know how to judge what he needed. With the right manager, paid a decent salary, that place could make it.

I wonder why there wasn't a press release from Beautiful Brands about the Dixie Cream closing. That flake sure pumps them out when he's opening a store or signing some flim flam franchise developement agreement with some marginal, regional restaurant and going to take it worldwide.

Theres the Western Sizzlin at 21st and Sheridan that has a buffet. My grand daughter likes to eat there because they have spare ribs. I like their baked potato bar.

Ryan's had really gone downhill the past year. I live near there and ate there every three or four weeks. Last summer there seemed to be a complete turnover in employees all at the same time. Some of the wait staff had been there for years. The one manager that was there when I was eating, seemed to be flakey when you'd talk to him. Western Sizzlin is usually good, but Golden Corral is the best IMO.

I use to like Ryans when they first opened, but I haven't eaten there in recent years. Remember Heritage House and Duff's? Both great buffets in their time - 1980s. I think more people are getting away from the all-you-can-eat concept for the most part. I know myself, I'd rather eat at a place where I order what I want instead of dipping my food out of large containers of food staying warm. Having said that every so often (maybe once a year) I'll partake of a meal at Golden Corral, etc.

Tulsa is so much better off not having the chance to stuff this crap down their pie hole.
