Doctor Who, 'Hallomas' and other spooky decorations around town

One of these days, I'm going to turn my house into a haunted one -- a fake one, that is, as I already believe my house is haunted. But that's another story.

For now, I'll have to live vi-scare-iously through -- Ha! Get it? Sorry, I'll stop now ... -- Halloween-decorating maestros like Vickie Rounsaville-Millard, whose house in the Briarwood subdivision on 89th East Avenue near 31st Street is spooktacular.

Since my story about her ran in Sunday's World, I've had several people ask me where other spooky yards and homes are. One couple, who wanted to remain anonymous, gladly shared photos from their own hacienda.

"We get so excited when we see somebody else decorating," the wife wrote. "We do the same insane thing at Christmas." In fact, her husband wants to try "Hallomas," but she's not sure their kids have warmed to that idea yet. Maybe next year? I'll keep ya posted.

Meanwhile, you can see their display -- pictured here in my blog -- on 56th Place, one block south of the light at 55th & Yale.

"You'll see the glow from Urbana," the wife said. "Yes, it is to some, tacky, but we will take that as a compliment."

My favorite part of the display is the "Doctor Who" scene, complete with the doctor himself peeking out from behind his TARDIS, with an evil Dalek luring nearby. Great, now I can't get the "Doctor Who" theme song out of my mind (specifically, the one when Tom Baker played the doctor -- my favorite incarnation).

Anywho, so where else in town can you find fun Halloween decorations? Please let me know in the comments below. Or, heck, tell me your favorite Doctor Who actor, if you want.

Peace, love and merry-scary, Dalek-filled Hallomasses (I so want that on a T-shirt now) ... XOXO

...and now I've got the "Doctor Who" theme in my head, too, except it is the version from the Eccleston/Tennant years.

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
