A nonprofit group, Physicians for Committee for Responsible Medicine, has picked five popular cookbooks as having the most unhealthy food.
The Five Worst Cookbooks of 2012, according to the group, are:
The Unofficial Downton Abbey Cookbook
One serving of Squab with Fig Foie Gras contains more cholesterol than 10 Big Macs and about as much fat as 12 tablespoons of lard.
One serving of Squab with Fig Foie Gras featured in The Unofficial Downton Abbey’s Cookbook contains 1,143 calories, 75 grams of fat, and 751 milligrams of cholesterol, according to a nutritional analysis by PCRM’s registered dietitians.
Emeril’s Kicked-Up Sandwiches
One serving of Emeril’s Monte Cristo sandwich contains as much sodium as half a medium Papa John’s pepperoni pizza.
One serving of Emeril Lagasse’s Monte Cristo sandwich in Emeril’s Kicked-Up Sandwiches contains 1,386 calories, 80 grams of fat, and 2,439 milligrams of sodium.
Rachael Ray’s My Year in Meals
One serving of Hearty Mac & Cheese with Squash & Sausage contains about as much saturated fat as a package of Original Oscar Mayer Bacon.
Rachael Ray’s Hearty Mac & Cheese with Squash & Sausage uses one pound of sausage, two cups of cheese, and half a cup of heavy cream for a Sunday supper recipe. Each serving contains 805 calories, 40 grams of fat, and 18 grams of saturated fat.
Fifty Shades of Chicken
Just four Bacon-Bound Wings contain more cholesterol than a 10-ounce New York strip steak at Outback Steakhouse.
Southern Living: The Official SEC Tailgating Cookbook
One serving of the Sausage-Hash Brown Breakfast Casserole has more cholesterol than eight Cinnabon Classics.
“One serving of foie gras in The Unofficial Downton Abbey Cookbook contains more cholesterol than 10 Big Macs,” says Susan Levin, M.S., R.D., director of nutrition education at PCRM. “These recipes are ticking time bombs for obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.”

When the opportunity to become the food writer at the Tulsa World presented itself in the summer of 2011, Nicole jumped at it. She is excited to explore a new side of Tulsa and make the transition from crime to cuisine. .
