Dangerous Rob
The rebirth of the next generation --
Dogg Pound Next Generation to be exact -- is on the horizon, and it officially includes Tulsa native
Dangerous Rob.
Masterminded in part by West Coast bad boy and acclaimed producer Daz Dillinger, the formation may just be the grimiest evolution of a group in hip-hop history.
With guidance from the veterans of Tha Dogg Pound (Snoop Dogg, Dillinger, Kurupt and Arnold "Bigg A" White), there's been a lot of grinding to get the DP Next Generation name out there.
"I'm just trying to make history, you know what I mean?" said Robert Daniels, aka Dangerous Rob, about his work and tryouts during the Dogg Pound Gangsta Clique Idols competition last year, which earned him a spot with the group of up-and-coming rappers.
The group recently converged in Atlanta to work on tracks produced by Nitty, who produced the hit single "It's Goin' Down" by Young Joc, as well as tracks for Bow Wow, Juvenile, T.I., and 8 Ball.
It also will begin shooting videos, according to a recent press release.
Daniels, now in his 30s, has been rapping since he was 15 years old. He left Tulsa in 1991 when he was with a rap group that met Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, DOC and had a spot on "The Arsenio Hall Show." He's been in and out of his home town of Tulsa ever since.
Already a veteran local rapper, he entered the contest to earn a spot with the Dogg Pound in late November 2005, he said. Out of 30,000 rappers he made the top 25, then the final 12, then the final six.
The members, Meko aka Mr. Murder, Dangerous Rob, Montana, 45, J-Tripz and Chaotic, all have stories to tell. Each has a different tale, but they all have experienced the same grind of the music industry, the same hustle to get their music played and the same love from their independent fan bases.
The slated release of this group, scheduled for spring/summer 2008, will be the mixtape "Idolized," and tracks like "Still Blazin'," will feature the entire Dogg Pound clique.
