Ah, fried chicken. That All-American dish doesn't show up on many restaurant menus anymore, and I suspect it has fallen out of favor with hurried home cooks as well.

However, I do occasionally run across fried chicken where I least expect it -- at upscale restaurants. Although it seems I ought to be ordering grilled salmon with a frou-frou glaze and whoop-tee-do sauce at these places, I am regularly pulled to the fried chicken because it usually is outstanding.

The Celebrity, Rick's Cafe Americain and the Local Table are three better restaurants that readily come to mind that offer memorable fried chicken -- which puts them a leg up in my book.
