This truth was confirmed Saturday about 8 p.m., up in section 308 (home of the nose-bleeds), when a woman on her cell phone ("I can't hear you, they're playing 'Hotel California'") was apparently so enthused by the song's conclusion that as she stood up, the beer wedged between her thighs was propelled forward as she stood to cheer, slopping 16 ounces of Bud Light down the back of my wife's shirt.
As the next song began, she did not have a peaceful, easy feeling toward the beverage-bobbler, but we soon laughed off this brew-ha-ha. We were having too good of a time.
The Eagles sounded great. The acoustics for this particular act proved spectacular. The event was a gigantic success. Period.
I wondered how many sound problems might crop up during the night. Not a one did as the group played 32 songs (what a catalog, only two songs played from "Hotel California").
They essentially played two concerts, the first 1 hour, 25 minutes, then a 20-minute intermission, then another 1 hour, 45 minutes.
As for the ticket prices, if you paid big, this was obviously important to you to begin with. But no matter the cost, it was worth every penny: The equivalent of two concerts, no extra charge for the civic pride.

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in movie critic Michael Smith’s brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.
