Endorphins, weights and Hideaway Pizza -- Week 3, Day 6

It was either this or a picture of Hideaway Pizza, sorry.

I'm in pain, and I'm totally enjoying it. Pass the candle wax.

Kidding -- I'm referring to my Thursday evening session with one of the John's saints, who re-introduced me to weight training -- something I'm embarrassed to say I haven't done since 2004.

So today, my arms are slightly sore, but I'm relishing it in a "no pain, no gain" way. It's a noticeable sense of accomplishment vs. just sweaty clothes, which, let's be honest, I can achieve when I'm tightrope-walking down my driveway after an ice storm.

However, I left the gym last night kinda loopy, and I have no idea why. My theory: Endorphin rush. Is there such a thing? Took me a minute to realize where I parked my car, which is only slightly unusual. Then, went to Reasor's -- took a rather circuitous route because I was confused on how to get there from St. John's (even though I've lived in the general area for more than 11 years). Anyway, got to the store, grabbed a cart and commenced to grabbing spinach, veggies, fruit and ALL HEALTHY stuff -- yay me! But what would normally take me 15 minutes took about 45 because I meandered from one side to the other, then back and forth, back, blah, blah, blah.

I do remember paying before I left, so that's a good sign. Made it home, left again to get my hair did, then went to Lord V's for our usual Friday Eve movie night with E -- which brings me to my food diary. And a rare segue, hmmm ...

Thursday -- a couple pieces of deli turkey after my workout, followed an hour later by an orange while I had my hair cut. Around 8:30 p.m., I broke down and ate one piece of Sooner Schooner pizza from Hideaway -- ONE PIECE vs. half the pie or more that I'd usually eat. Not bad!

Before working out this morning, had 1/3 of a Clif protein bar. Later, post-workout, I had scrambled egg whites with spinach and fat-free cheese, plus oatmeal and blueberries. At 11 a.m., had a banana. Then 007 and I went to Panera, where I had this new Mediterranean salmon salad, complete with feta, Kalamata olives, red onion, Mandarin oranges, sliced almonds and a tangerine orange blossom honey vinaigrette. Oh, yeah, and salad grees -- all 480. Plus an apple for my sad. Dang, I would've loved a baguette, though ...

Hope y'all have a fabulous Friday and weekend. And be careful with candle wax.

Peace, love and vinaigrette ... xoxo

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
