FAQ No. 2

Probably the second most frequently asked question I receive: Do the restaurants know you are coming to review them?
No. Occasionally, I am recognized at a restaurant, usually by a chef, owner or server I previously have encountered at a another restaurant.
I suppose I could wear a wig and Groucho glasses, but I am spotted so infrequently it wouldn't be worth the effort.
If I am recognized, on rare occasions I might notice my servings are larger than others, or our table receives a "complimentary" dish from the chef, but if that happens I disregard it for the review.
After I have dined at a restaurant, I phone back a few days later to set up a background interview and photo shoot. The reviews are a combination of the dining experience and interview.

Completely off the topic...I'm new to town, am a HUGE foody and cooking fanatic, and am looking for a good asian market, where I can purchase goods (sticky rice, galangal root, lemon grass, etc) to make my favorite thai/vietnamese/laotian recipes. if anyone has suggestions as to where i can find one or more, id be much obliged. also, any stores which carry indian spices/ingredients aside from wild oats? thanks.

Hi Christian, This is a new blog and for some reason, Scott doesn't participate after writing an entry.
If you are still looking, here are three that I know of:
Nam Hai - 21st and Garnett.
Thaia grocery store - Northeast corner of 31st and Sheridan in the Mall 31 Center.
Korean grocery store - 41st and 129th East Ave
You might call Ri-Le, a Vietamese restaurant, and see if they know of any other grocery stores in the area.
