FREE MEET AND GREET: Country musician Chris Young

Country music rising star Chris Young is going to get a lot more of Tulsa than most musicians would dare.

Before Young’s Saturday performance at Cain’s Ballroom, he’ll head north for a special appearance at noon at Wal-Mart, 12101 E 96th St N., in Owasso.

There, he’ll celebrate the release of his newest studio album, “Neon,” which dropped nationally on July 12. He’ll sign copies of the new album for fans. It will also be available for purchase. The event is free and all-ages.

The baritone-voiced singer was nominated for a Grammy for best male country vocal performance. This summer, he’ll also join Jason Aldean on his “My Kinda Party” tour.

Willie Nelson also performs a duet with Young on the new album, the tune “Rose in Paradise,” a Waylon Jennings classic.

Young’s second album, “The Man I Want to Be,” launched three hit singles, including the title track, “Voices” and the Grammy-nominated “Gettin’ You Home.”

Young performs 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Cain’s Ballroom in downtown Tulsa. The Dirt Drifters and Jacob Lyda will open.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.
