My preview of movies coming out in September, October and early November has a few films that I'm looking forward to with great anticipation.

Not a lot, but a few.

I'm intrigued by Clint Eastwood vision for "J. Edgar," with Leonardo DiCaprio playing the head of the FBI. Will we see Leo in a dress? You know you're wondering the same thing....

I think the baseball movie "Moneyball" is going to be smart, entertaining, funny and dramatic, and that's a winning combo for this Brad Pitt-starring tale of Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane.

I've already seen "Martha Marcy May Marlene," about a young woman trying to fit back into society after spending two years with an abusive cult and my reaction is: Wow.
You've heard about the Olsen twins, and now you'll meet their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, who just might be a dark-horse Oscar contender.

Check out trailers for these three entries: "The Ides of March," directed by George Clooney, and he stars with Ryan Gosling in a likely Oscar contender; "Real Steel," with Hugh Jackman training boxing robots in what is likely to be the popcorn movie of the fall; and "Paranormal Activity 3," because I thought the second movie was as scary as the first one, and I'm ready to be spooked again.

I See Movies for Free

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in movie critic Michael Smith’s brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.
