They say as one ages the more he becomes loyal to particular brands, whether it be food, clothing, medicines, pet supplies, whatever.

I became addicted to the Fess Parker brand in elementary school, when he portrayed Davy Crockett on television. I had the cookskin cap, the fringe jacket, the lunch box and I could sing every single verse to "Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee......." I don't know why my parents didn't pick up a flintlock rifle and shoot me.

As an adult, I ran across Fess Parker wines and learned that, sure enough, my childhood hero was making wines in California. I was hooked. Still am.

Fess Parker, a 6-foot-6 giant of a man, died last week at 85. When I reach, let's say, a certain level of maturity, and if they came out with Fess Parker Depends, or a Fess Parker walker, or a Fess Parker diet supplement, I'm sure I would be the first in line.
