I have a pretty solid morning Internet routine. We all do.
But alas, I was completely thrown off by the new news feed and look of Facebook this morning. So were thousands of other people, and I'm not the first person to take to the
blogosphere today, including Mark Tonkelowitz the engineering manager at Facebook.
Here's how he addressed the changes today on the FB blog today:
"Now, News Feed will act more like your own personal newspaper. You won't have to worry about missing important stuff. All your news will be in a single stream with the most interesting stories featured at the top," he wrote. "If you haven't visited Facebook for a while, the first things you'll see are top photos and statuses posted while you've been away. They're marked with an easy-to-spot blue corner."
AAAH!
Now I have to use my time trying to understand how the "new" Facebook feed is helping me save time? Some say they resent that this new algorithm knows what stories, and therefore what friends, you are most interested in.
And what's up with the new ticker on the right hand side? I don't care what my friends do on their Facebook pages...why should I have to look at a running tab of it? And now anytime I post something, and a friend replies, their friends can see what I posted. Hmm. Privacy, what?
Here's my biggest complaint: Why mess with somethign just to mess with it -- and then tack on the excuse that they're helping us, when they are, in fact, putting us out?
I understand that technology evolves (and Facebook has a large engineering staff to pay), but changing and complicating how we look at our news feed will only alienate many of us.
Yes, we all shout in protest when something changes, but these are pretty big changes for a social network with 750 million users.
Am I alone here? What do you think of the latest Facebook changes?
