Mine were probably the same as every other parent’s . . .

1. “How far is Sandy Hook Elementary from my own kid’s school?

Roughly 1,425 miles.

“That’s way too close.”

2. “Should I drop everything and run to get my kid?”

Enjoying a day with his grandparents, he’s not even at school right now.

“But should I go get him anyway?”

Obviously not. There’s no point. I’m not sure why it even occurs to me.

“But should I?”

3. “How easy would it be for something like this to happen at our school?”

No. I don’t even want to think about it.

4. “How much security do I want at our school?”

Metal detectors?

Armed guards?

Barbed wire?

“Is that the world I want my kid to grow up in?”

Maybe it is the world he’s growing up in.

5. “How am I going to explain it to my son?”

Will he bring it up? Can I shield it from him?

What can you say?
