There's an interesting discussion on the food site Serious Eats. The question: "What foods are banned from your office?"
None here, that I know of. But I can think of one or two I wish were banned.
It's surprising to read how many offices actually ban certain foods from the workplace. The biggest offender is microwave popcorn. Second is fish, which I can understand because the smell of microwaved fish is absolutely awful, so much so that I cannot begin to eat it.
Popcorn doesn't bother me, so long as it's not burned. The smell of burned popcorn, as we all know, can linger for hours.
Here are some weird ones: collard greens, garlic, oranges. What's so bad about the smell of orange peel?
Some offices, like many schools, have banned peanuts and peanut products because of peanut allergies.
One commenter, who said she works in private banking, said her office banned five things, so as not to offend clients. They are: fish, popcorn, Pop-Tarts in the toaster, anything "funky" and perfume.
Tell us what's banned at your office.
