For real?!!? Hanson to create beer named MMMHop?

The innerwebs are going nutty today about the supposed announcement of a Hanson-inspired beer, MMMHop.

There is no mentioned of the beverage, however, on the band's official website or Twitter accounts. There is no official word from Hanson management, either. An email to the Tulsa group's publicist has not been answered.

Said drummer Zac Hanson during an interview with the Oxford University Union: “It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I’m not joking – MMMhop IPA anyone?”

He also said, “We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience," quoted Toronto.com.

Websites have since gone ape and run with the story, including sites like Beer Advocate, NME, the Times of India, Contact Music, Houston Chronicle and others.

So, tongue-in-cheek quip about the Hanson brand, or serious announcement? What do y'all think? ... Would you drink it?

Not sure if I believe it. Especially coming from Zac. I might be pulling this from nowhere, but he seems like the least likely to care for the idea, and the most likely to openly mock it.

Oh, I would totally drink it, though.

They have fans? Good for them.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
